I had been in a relationship with my fiance for 3.5 years when he decided to move to TX after losing his job. He returned a couple months later but basically I had already emotionally detached from him leaving and him not talking to me while he was away. We went to couples counseling while I went on eharmony. I told a mutual about a couple dates I had went on (her husband was a close friend of my ex). A few months after I had forgotten about the eharmony stint my friend's husband tells my ex what had happened (right around the time the therapy was starting to work). One day after therapy he takes me to a park (we never did anything romantic) to have 'the talk' with me. He asked me if I had something to tell him...and I literally didnn't remember going on eharmony at this point..it was so long ago. We talk for a couple hours...more than he ever communicated before. He didn't break up with me, but he wanted to take some time. I texted him a week later, and a week after that, and a week after that - the last time asking if he wanted the ring back. And then I discontinued our relationship on facebook. I talked to him later and he didn't even notice, and he "never got" my texts...he was planning to talk to me to tell me his decision... 3 months after I broke up with him...at our mutual friends wedding (above).

Me and the bf were staying in for the night, going to take it easy and watch a movie. He left his laptop on when he went to the bathroom. I heard this weird little bleep noise. I wasn't sure what it even was then i saw this little red balloon bouncing. He got a facebook chat from a girl named Liz. Well, i hate to even admit that i did this but, i read the instant message. She started off with hey babe. I didn't think much of that at this point. I really wanted to respond, but i just waited. few minutes go by and then liz sent another message. "So, when will she be going back home?" She was referring to me and, home was to me going to my parents house for the weekend. I was so angry that i typed back, friday morning. She replied, "Ok, see ya saturday night... miss u <3". I just the message up for him when he got out. I had all different way to break up with him in my head, but i just stood up, gave him a kiss on the cheek, and said "I hope she's worth it." I walked out, got in my car and balled my eyes out. We'd been dating a little over a year, and i really was into him. I guess it's back to square one now, yuck. Just for the record, i still haven't responded to his texts or calls. It is wrong if i never respond to him again?

Things had been going rough for a while and I could tell we weren't going to last long. I guess she felt the best way to break up with me would be to send her best friend to my house. I was dating this guy for about a year. I wasnt really into the relationship toward the end as much as he was. I was working full time and going to grad. school, so my schedule was really hectic and I didnt have much time to see him. I had tried to break up with him a couple of times, but he had always talked his way back into the "relationship". I thought the best way to break up was to start seeing someone else. He would get pissed and leave...we'll he got pissed but didnt leave. The next night (after he found out) he said that we needed to talk. I was almost excited because i figured he was going to break it off. I went over to his apartment after class. I walk into a candlelit dinner set up with romantic music playing. He walks out all dressed up and says "the past is the past. I want our future to start today" drops to one knee and pulls out a gorgeous Tiffany's ring. I start crying fully aware that I am a horrible person. He takes that as a yes and starts to put the ring on my finger. I had to jerk back, say how sorry I was and walked out of the apartment. The worst part was that his mother called me for 2 weeks straight telling me how awful I was and that I am going to end up alone.

My boyfriend and I had been dating for a year and a half. I thought it was really going somewhere. One day he calls me and says that he really needs to talk to me. I come home and he has set up a lovely candle light dinner. I was so surprised and happy. He smiles and pulls out a ring box and then he pushes play on the cd player. "Dont go away mad(Just go away) was playing. Seeing my confusion he explained, "Oh sorry, forgot to change the song from when I broke up with my girlfriend today". My mouth just dropped open as he changed the song to some sort of wedding march song and then asked me to marry him. I very nicely told him to fuck off and what an asshole he was and then took my leave.

My ex, with whom I have a beautiful daughter with, and I dated for 3.5 years. I moved out to his small hometown and put my university plans on hold so that we could start a family and our life together. After 2ish years of being a stay-at-home mom, I decided that it was time to go back to school so my daughter and I moved into the city (1.5 hours away) while he stayed to keep his well paying job and live in the house that we had bought. He came to the city every weekend, his weeks off, and every holiday that he had from work. We eventually decided to rent out our house and he began to live in the city and commute to work. Nothing had changed, other than the amount of time we were together and my load of responsibilities (which I handled quite well), but he became increasingly aggravated. In April of my first year of school, he confessed that he resented me for going back to school and felt that I had to prove that I was better than him. He broke up with me with the excuse that it just wasn't working and he couldn't be with "someone like me". We remained friends for the sake of our daughter and everything was fine. It wasn't until I had met and started dating someone else that he decided that he didn't really break up with me in the first place, and that he had just wanted a break from the stress of our changing relationship. After this epic attempt had failed to sway me, he proceeded with trying everything possible to sabotage my life (ie. take custody of our daughter, cut off all financial assistance, force me to quit school, ruin my new relationship). Thankfully, everything that he tried was unsuccessful. My daughter is still with me, I am still in nursing school working towards my bachelor in science and nursing, and am in a wonderful relationship with my new boyfriend.

I'm sorry sweetheart, but real life doesn't work that way.

I was moving Chicago to start my first real job after college. I was really excited because on the flight to Chicago they were offering a promotion to try their wifi service on the plane for free. I log onto Facebook only to find out that my boyfriend of 1.5 years had canceled our relationship status. I get onto AIM and luckily find him online. I ask him what was up with Facebook only to find out that he wanted to break up while I was in mid-flight.
